What does FAQ stand for?
FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. We have put together the answers to some of the more common questions potential ADSL customers ask us.
Top
What are the advantages of ADSL?
Some of the main advantages of ADSL are:
- the ability to use your phone at the same time as using the Internet
- the greater speed of ADSL
- the potential saving on phone call costs through the use of Voice over IP.
FAQ
How fast is ADSL/Broadband?
Typacally ADSL comes in 3 common speeds:
- 256/64 meaning a download speed of 256 kbps and an upload speed of 64 kbps.
- 512/128 meaning a download speed of 512 kbps and an upload speed of 128 kbps.
- 1500/256 meaning a download speed of 1500 kbps and an upload speed of 256 kbps.
These uneven upload and download speeds work quite well for normal internet access as we generally download much more than we upload.
As for raw speed, the fastest ADSL is generally said to be up to 30 times faster than a standard modem.
FAQ
How long does it take to get ADSL?
On some occasions it is possible to have ADSL provisioned in as little as 5 business days, however in our experience that is the exception rather
than the rule. We generally tell our customers 10 to 15 business days to reduce the chances of disapointment.
You can assist to speed up the provisioning time by ensuring the details you provide when ordering are accurate.
It should also be noted that even if your phone line is connected to an ADSL enabled exchange, things such as distance from the exchange and the way your phone service as been provided may prevent you from having ADSL successfully provisioned.
FAQ
Once connected to ADSL can I change plans?
The short answer is yes, but as with most things these days it is not that simple.
If you join on a "Metered/Shaped" plan you may change plans and speeds from one month to the next for a fee.
FAQ
What are the plan change fees?
The fee for changing plans is:
- Metered/Shaped
Plan change at the same speed $20.00
Plan change with Speed increase/decrease $66.00
FAQ
What may cause unintentional ADSL cancellation?
- Moving House. If you move house you may be able to take your phone number, but your ADSL service is not portable due to the way it is provisioned at the exchange. This will cause a service cancellation, possibly making you liable for any early cancellation fee's or penalties and will require a reconnection.
- Billing Changes. If you have your billing details changed or accounts consolidated be very careful that your phone company doesn't do this by canceling and recreating your account. This has been known to cause service cancellation, possibly making you liable for any early cancellation fee's or penalties and will require a reconnection.
- Phone Disconnection. If you fail to pay your phone bill and your phone company disconnects your phone service, your ADSL will as a result also be canceled, once again possibly making you liable for any early cancellation fee's or penalties and will require a reconnection.
